About Chosen Hill Lodge No. 8067

Who are we?

Chosen Hill Lodge meets at Freemason’s Hall in Gloucester. It was originally created by those who had moved into and around Churchdown, due to their workplace being moved to Gloucester and surrounding areas. The first Founders meeting took place in 1965 and the Lodge was Consecrated on the 12th of February 1966. The meeting was held at the Bat & Ball pub in Churchdown, where other masonic Lodges had also temporarily moved to while the Mercer’s Hall in the city centre was being turned into a Masonic Temple. Since then, it has grown into one of the top Lodges within the Province of Gloucestershire.

What we do

The appeal of Chosen Hill Lodge is that we are one of the few Lodges in the Province to be held on a Friday evening, enabling members to come straight from work if they wish to. We are also a ‘formal’ Lodge and pride ourselves on the high standard of our ceremonies and our honest and friendly approach to all our members and visitors. All our new members have a wealth of experience at their disposal with long standing members at hand to help and guide them as they make their way along their Masonic journey.

Why join us?

There are many reasons for people joining Masonry and at Chosen Hill Lodge, you will always find a warm welcome, with members happy to help and answer any questions you may have. Our members vary in age, from long standing members happy to help and pass on their wisdom and experience, to new younger members who have recently joined and are still finding their feet. Chosen Hill Lodge caters for all ages and our members form a strong bond and are happy to provide help for any member should they require it. Our meetings are enjoyable and uplifting, our Festive Boards are full of fun where members eat, drink and sing, and raise their glasses to toast and rejoice, a great night is had by all. Our members come from varied backgrounds and professions and all are welcomed and treated as equal. At our meetings you never know who you might be introduced to and all are happy to share stories and life experiences. It is no wonder that Chosen Hill Lodge has often been regarded as one of the top Lodges in the Province of Gloucestershire and some of the Province’s higher Officers are and have been, members of this great Lodge. We also hold social events from Black Tie Ladies nights to skittles nights, real-ale drink meet-ups, curry nights and family days, all members are encouraged to join us. If you are looking to get into Freemasonry or even just want to know a little more about how Freemasonry works, please do get in touch with us, there’ll always be someone ready to help and answer any questions you might have.

Interested in Joining Freemasonry?

Becoming a Freemason is a journey of personal growth and community involvement that has appealed to men of various backgrounds for centuries. In the United Kingdom, the process starts by ensuring you meet the basic qualifications: you must be a man over the age of 18 who believes in a Supreme Being. Although Freemasonry is not a religious organisation, a fundamental belief in a higher power is one of its basic tenets. Once you meet these requirements, the next step is often to talk to someone you know who is already a member. They can help guide you through the process, which usually involves filling out a petition and attending a series of meetings where you’ll be interviewed and voted upon by the lodge’s current members.

If you don’t know anyone who is a Freemason, don’t worry—there are other avenues available for you to explore this venerable institution. You can reach out to your local Masonic lodge to express your interest or attend one of their public events. This will provide you with an opportunity to meet members and learn more about what the lodge does both for its members and the wider community. These preliminary steps offer valuable insights into what you can expect from the experience and the ways in which you can contribute.

For a comprehensive understanding and official guidance on becoming a Freemason in the United Kingdom, the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is the best resource. Their website offers a wealth of information, including details on how to join, the history of Freemasonry, and its modern-day activities and charitable endeavours. To take the first official step towards becoming a Freemason, visit the UGLE website, where you’ll find the information and contacts you need to begin your Masonic journey.
